Compassion in Action

The St. Jude PEC strives to be a supportive presence to the members of our school community during the very difficult circumstances of grave illness and death. Our goal is to express our care to families in need in a way that honours their unique situation, including desires for different degrees of privacy. Compassion in Action is the name we’ve given to this area of activities.

We know that communication in your language of choice can be a great comfort during hard times. PEC members speak several different languages including: Cantonese, Mandarin, Tagalog, and American Sign Language. A member of the PEC would be honoured to contact you to explore how the school might help your family during this time. If you or someone you know at St. Jude School is in this circumstance, there may be ways in which we can offer spiritual and practical support.

Please call or drop by the school office to talk with the Mr. Perry or contact us via email.

In the coming months, our school’s Parent Resource Library will be building its collection of bereavement books for children and adults to help you and your family members cope with the sorrow and pain of your loss. Please check back here for more information soon.

Many helpful Catholic resources about death and dying are available in a dedicated section of the Archdiocese of Vancouver website. You will find articles, guidelines and links on the topics of: burials and funerals, cemeteries, death and grieving, end of life, final sacraments and leaving a legacy.

The section on death and grieving has links to many excellent articles to help you better understand grief in general as well as in particular circumstances such as losing a child, suicide or long-term illness.
