Grade 5

It is with great happiness that I start the adventure of teaching your children this September. I hope that my joy for Christ and His Church shines through in my time spent with your sons and daughters. Truly, I am looking forward to getting to know each student. Furthermore, I firmly believe that parents are the primary educators of their own children and I am here to help support you.

Here are a few things for you to know:

  • Your daughter or son can tell you about our school rules discussed today – Respectful, Reverent, Responsible, Resilient. I will go over them with the students throughout the year.
  • The behaviour when learning that I will ask students to show me is called “STAR Behaviour” (Sit up, Track the speaker, Ask and answer questions like a scholar, Respect those around you). Every student has signed the STAR page. As far as consequences for poor behaviour are concerned, I will use a simple 3-Strikes-And-You’re-Out rule. By Strike 3, I will usually keep the student in at recess to help out with something in the classroom or think about what has occurred, or send a “purple behaviour sheet” home that must be signed by a parent and returned to school.
  • If every child could please bring a kleenex box to school, that would be very helpful.

REMINDERS

Communication: If you need to arrange a meeting, please either email me or call the office ahead to set up a mutually convenient time. Also, please inform me of any current family problems or illnesses that may affect your child’s performance and attitude at school. This will enable me to give special attention when it is needed and to be sensitive in certain situations.

Agenda Book: Students will copy down their homework in their agendas every day. Agendas will be signed by the teacher before the class is dismissed each day. Please review your child’s agenda book consistently.

Time tables: Please see the Grade 5 weekly schedule below for more information. Grade 5’s have Physical Education on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Please make sure your child brings their gym strip to school every day. Library time is on Tuesday morning. Let us make sure all books are returned on due dates. Please note that due to field trips, school events, and masses, the daily and/or weekly schedule may be subject to change.

Quick reminders: Please label all belongings, especially sweaters, pants and skirts, as items tend to get lost. It is imperative that students attend school on time, as morning exercises are an important part of the day.
