REFLECTION
“Discipline: Do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done, as well as it needs to be done, every single time.” – Coach Bob Knight
I first came across this quote in the SFU Mens Basketball team room when I served as team manager in 2003 and it has stuck with me ever since I read it. It is a quote worth memorizing and sharing with your children.
I suppose when I reflect on it, in some areas I am proficient in the area of discipline. For example, on January 1st I started listening to the Bible in a Year podcast with Fr. Mike Schmitz and I have kept this up, listening to scripture daily and when a day is missed I am able to make it up the following day. Other areas though, not so much. My diet, definitely not disciplined (not a huge fan of salads and veggies). Exercise, certainly not getting the recommended 30 minutes a day.
Last week I wrote about the journey of a 1000 miles beginning with a single step. Discipline is the tool that helps us achieve the goals. Reflecting on how you can model discipline for your child is important but even greater, is taking time to help them understand the significance of discipline.
The journey to a more discipline life though is not easy and there are plenty of setbacks. Yet, this is not a reason to throw our hands in the air and grow indifferent. When we do falter, we acknowledge our humanity and then recommit to the path of continual self improvement.
WALKATHON 2023
Let’s get those pledges!
Students are reminded to bring in their pledge sheets every Friday so that we can get a sense of how close we are to meeting our goal of $30,000.

WALKATHON SUPERVISION
Next week permission forms will go out for our May 12, Walkathon. We need parent volunteers to walk with our students. Student safety is always a concern for this event and we can only be successful if enough parents are able to walk with the classes. Please consider volunteering as parent chaperone for this day. Thank you.
