The Patrioteer – April 4, 2025

PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Spring time has come to Vancouver! The bright boughs, the vibrant flower beds, and the intermittent sunshine are signs that the Earth is awakening from the winter slumber. Our students too are beginning to blossom in their learning as we near the end of the second term. This is the time of year for teachers when lessons start to sink in and the students start showing how far they have come through the school year. It is a time of renewal and joy.  Spring reminds us that God is good and keeps promises!

Another part of Spring that is important for Catholics is the celebration of Easter. We are two weeks out from the Triduum which marks the end of Lent and beginning of Easter. Here at our Catholic School we encourage students to stay fast in their Lenten promises and continue to fast and almsgive through the end of Lent to prepare our hearts and minds for the Easter Season.

St. Jude, Pray for us!

ST. JUDE 2025 CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP

We concluded our Chess Season this spring with a tournament. This multi-day tournament has given our students a chance to shine and showcase their love of chess. We are pleased to announce the winners of our 2025 Chess Tournament.

  • 1st Place Champion: Aaron, Grade 4
  • Runner up: Ethan, Grade 2
  • 3rd & 4th Place: Sherwin, Grade 3 and Thanh, Grade 7

  • Sherlyn, Grade 6
  • Vinh, Grade 7
  • Leo, Grade 5

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

One special school event that takes place during Lent is Stations of the Cross. Through the prayerful participation in this meditation on the last moments of Jesus, we can enter into a fuller understanding of the love God has for us. We are blessed to be able to pass along this Catholic tradition to our students. For more information, please check out EWTN.com

All are welcome to join us for Stations of the Cross in the church every Friday during Lent at 11:30am.

NEW RESOURCE TEACHER AT ST. JUDE

We are sad to announce that Mr. English has moved back to Ireland and will no longer be teaching at St. Jude. But after the rain comes the sunshine as we are happy to announce that we have a new teacher in his place.
Miss Flavin has recently moved to Vancouver, but she is not new to our community as she has been subbing since February in various positions at our school. Miss Flavin comes to us with a wealth of teaching experience back home in Ireland, and a love of music and the outdoors.
Please welcome Miss Flavin to our St. Jude community!
