The Patrioteer -November 8, 2024

PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Remembrance Day is the time for us to slow down and give thanks for the freedoms we have in our country. I feel so grateful to live in a country where I am able to practice my faith freely and live in a strong multi-cultural community.

Today the Grade Five students gave a thoughtful assembly to the rest of the school with a prayer of peace. They did an amazing job and gave me hope for the next generation. As teachers, our job is to instill that hope and promise for a better world in our students, and I see so much of that promise every day.

Thank you, parents, for letting us join your children on their journey to make tomorrow a better place. We join in the prayer for peace across the globe this Remembrance Day and remember those who gave their lives for others.

COMMUNITY CORNER

There are many Remembrance Day ceremonies to be found across the city.

Check out this excerpt from the Vancouver Sun:

Vancouver’s Remembrance Day ceremonies have been held at the cenotaph at Victory Square, 200 West Hastings St., since 1924. The 100th-anniversary event starts at 10:30 a.m. and includes choirs and soloists, prayers and speeches, two minutes of silence at 11 a.m., laying of wreaths and a parade to follow. A livestream is available at the City of Vancouver Facebook page and the ceremony is often broadcast on local TV.
