REFLECTION

“For you were once in darkness, but now your are light in the Lord. Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth. Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.” (Eph 5:8-10)

The above passage is from St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. The passage reminds me of a quote I often repeat to students and to my own children: “once you know better, you’re obligated to do better.” The concept is echoed here in Paul’s letter as he tells the community in Ephesus that they were once in darkness or in ignorance but now that they have heard and been instructed in the good news of Christ as savior and messiah, they are to live in the light.

The last sentence though is one that we ought to really reflect on and have our children reflect on. What does please the Lord? If we can spend time reading scripture, reflecting on our own words and deeds, and praying for guidance we might better be able to know what is pleasing to the Lord. St. Paul’s letter is good advice for all of us. With Ash Wednesday approaching on February 14 and the start of Lent, we would all do well to commit to live as children of light.

GR 6 GIRLS BASKETBALL OPEN LEAGUE PLAY WITH STRONG PERFORMANCES

The Gr. 6 Girls Basketball team opened their league play against Holy Cross Elementary and St. Mary’s Elementary this week. In both games, the team opened with an onslaught of baskets, rebounds, and strong defense. The girls show a lot of energy and they cheer each other on, demonstrating a strong sense of team. The team is 2-0 and will face Our Lady of Sorrows on Tuesday before heading to St. Catherine’s for a tournament on Thursday. Let’s go St. Jude Patriots!

GR 5 GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAMS WINS THE SHOOTOUT CONTEST AT OLS TOURNAMENT

The Gr. 5 Girls team had lots of fun as they competed in the OLS Basketball Tournament. While the team lost some of the games, they did remarkably well in the shooting contest. Way to go St. Jude Patriots!

WASHROOM UPDATE

Your child may have come home from school and told you that the washrooms upstairs are closed and have been for quite some time. I would like to communicate with our families the reason for the closure.

One of the main sewage pipes leaked over a weekend in our Art Supply room. As a result we have had to close the upstairs washrooms until repairs can be made. Insurance is involved and the scope of the work to be done is complex. We are in the process of working with contractors and plumbers to get the repairs done, to repair the damaged and affected areas, and to get our upstairs washrooms open. Fortunately we have washrooms downstairs that have not been affected and remain open for student use.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to get the repairs done.
