The Patriot Report – February 22nd, 2019

Reflection

We certainly are blessed to live where we do. On this past Wednesday evening I had the opportunity to go snowboarding at Mount Seymour. It was a clear and beautiful night and I certainly enjoyed the slopes. At the top of the mountain it is hard not to be ensnared by the beauty of where we live. The sun was setting, the air was crisp, the city lights were flickering in the distance, and  the trees stood tall bearing the weight of the previous days snowfall. Being on top of a mountain always gives a different perspective. Having the opportunity to view our lives from different perspectives is an important part of our life journey. Perhaps this is why Jesus went to the mountain to pray and reflect. He recognized the importance to step away from the day to day and to take time to pause and reflect. May we all be so lucky as to find time to pause and reflect on our lives and how we can better orientate ourselves to Christ.

Criminal Record Check

A reminder that if you are volunteering for the school (driving students, coaching, chaperoning field trips, reading, etc.) you need to complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC). It is free for volunteers. You will need our school access code so please contact the office if you need to complete a CRC.

School Safety

St. Jude School cares about the safety of all users of our school building. It is important for our students’ safety that the doors downstairs remain closed and not wedged open, especially after hours. Please also ensure that the door downstairs shuts properly after opening it. A reminder that all visitors to the school need to come in through our main doors that face East 15th Ave and check in at the office.

School Closures Due to Snow

As an administrator it is my desire to always have school be in session. However, I cannot put students and staff at risk in the event that road conditions become treacherous. Our school is a commuter school in that the majority of our students are driven to the school and our staff comes from various neighbourhoods. This presents unique conditions for our school that must be considered when discerning whether to close the school due to weather.
The school will communicate a closure due to weather through the school website and through email using our MailChimp service as well as Remind. Please understand that the decision to close is never an easy decision and numerous factors are taken into consideration.

Parents are responsible for checking email and the website on cold weather days when snow is in the forecast

School Life

For Care Day students were asked to dress in sportswear. Two of our Kindergarten students showed up in full Patriot Basketball gear! Way to show School Spirit! Thank you to all those who supported Care Day.

Basketball Season Ends

St. Jude School wishes to congratulate the Gr. 6 Girls and the Gr. 7 Boys Basketball teams for qualifying for playoffs. Both teams ran into stronger opponents in the first round, but they competed hard and represented our school well. St. Jude School wishes to thank the staff and parents that supported basketball by coaching and reffing. Without your hard work and time, we could not have a basketball program. We would like to encourage all our student athletes to join community basketball programs to further develop their skills during the off season so that next year we can achieve even more success!
