REFLECTION

“Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span?” Matthew 6:27

What led Jesus to ask his followers this question? He must have observed those around him worrying about all sorts of things. Jesus, wanting to lead his followers closer to God, reminds people to put their faith and trust in God.

In our modern times, many have commented that anxiety and stress from worrying are at all time highs. Might this also coincide with a lack of faith and trust in God? Might it be that as faith diminishes in people, anxiety increases?

Jesus was not judging his followers for being anxious. I think he understood that people tend to worry. We tend to rely on sources other than God. We rely on ourselves, on our friends, on internet sources, on modern science, and so on. When we rely entirely on sources that are not God, anxiety and worry will increase.

So let us listen to Jesus and depend on God and trust in the ways of the Lord.

THE CHOSEN

Some of you may be aware of the series on Netflix titled, The Chosen. I am sometimes skeptical of television shows or movies that try to recreate stories from the Gospels. But after some time and hearing a lot of positive reviews, I decided to give this series a try. It has surpassed all my expectations and I recommend it to each of you. It does a great job of following scripture and in particular exploring the characters of the apostles and other disciples. It is important that you remember that The Chosen does not replace scripture, but instead might help you better reflect on it.

After finishing Season 1 on Netflix, I downloaded the app, The Chosen, onto my phone so that I can watch Season 2 and 3.
