REFLECTION

“Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” – Maya Angelou

To the mothers, aunts, and grandmas that have shaped our life and have supported us in our journeys we say thank you. We honor the role of motherhood.

We tend to romanticize motherhood this weekend and it is completely understandable. However, motherhood is messy and difficult. Mothers, guided by love, sacrifice all that they are for their children. This sacrifice starts with diaper changes, burps, and sleepless nights. As her child grows and changes, the role of motherhood evolves. The burping on the shoulder is replaced with a child’s tears and snot after they had a tough day at school and they’re just done with it all. The sleep might improve, but to be sure nightmares and illnesses keep a mother up through the night. And the worrying does not stop.

Moms want the best for their children but that takes an effort akin to jumping hurdles and climbing fences and breaking through walls. Motherhood is exhausting and yet, also rewarding beyond measure. It brings great joy and yet, can be filled with sadness and tears. Mothers have to endure it all and that does deserve our gratitude.

Happy Mothers Day.

WALKATHON 2023

Thank you to the parent volunteers that made this year’s Walkathon a success! We are honored to be a part of such a caring community! This year was especially fun because the students had the opportunity to create their own one-of-a-kind tie dye shirts for the event. Thank you to the teachers and EAs for facilitating the wrapping and rubber-banding of the shirts in the classroom. Thank you to Ms. Smillie, Miss Daly, Mrs. Hombrebueno, Mrs. Skoko, and Miss Gloster for assisting the students in dying the shirts and taking special care to avoid the uniforms while they themselves were covered in dye. And one big thank you to Mr. V who spearheaded the event and took all the students’ shirts to his house to rinse and wash himself.

WALKATHON SPONSOR FAMOUS FOODS

Once again Famous Foods donated fruit for our students to have for today’s walkathon. We want to thank Famous Foods for their continued support. I encourage families to support them as they are a local business that has supported us.
