The Patriot Report – November 15, 2019

Reflection

Hands on learning is a very effective means of instruction. When hands on learning meets real world application, student engagement is maximized. Students in Gr. 6 and Gr. 7 are applying their knowledge of the corporal acts of mercy with textiles as part of the ADST curriculum. Instead of making an article of clothing for themselves, the students are making toques for the homeless and those in need. I am proud of our students and especially our teachers for combining curriculum in a way that makes a positive and transformative difference in our society.

SHOP AT CHAPTERS THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON

The other week, I was at Chapters with my wife doing Christmas shopping for our family. I love trying to find a good book for a family member. You have to really think about the person and know them in order to get the type of book right. As we were shopping I recalled our fundraiser. Here is what I did and you can do it too:

1. I selected the items I wanted to buy for people.
2. I added the total amount to be spent.
3. I followed this link: https://indigofundraising.flipgive.com/f/1112739
4. I purchased the number of gift cards I needed to cover the costs.
5. I then pulled up the e-gift cards up on my phone and used them to buy the books and the other gifts we found at Chapters. It was painless and hassle free.
6. In those simple steps I was able to generate money for our school. It was money that I was going to spend anyway, but by purchasing the e-gift cards for myself I was able to see that 15% of the proceeds went to our school to improve the building infrastructure and upgrade technology
