The Patriot Report – October 26th, 2018

Walkathon Report

I want to thank all of the students for their hard work in raising money for our school. Our fundraisers are so important for the growth and sustainability of our school. I am happy to report that the total amount of money brought in as of today is $25,277.70! We are well on our way to meeting our $40,000 fundraising goal for 2018-19. Thank you again to all the parents who made our Walkathon a success.

September Care Day Report

Our Care Day in September raised $391.05 for St. Marc School in Haiti. Thank you to everyone who participated.

Halloween Guidelines

This year Halloween falls on a Wednesday, which is the same day as our school mass. Please note the following:

  • If your child wants to wear a costume they are to pack it and then change into their costume during recess time – they must be able to do this independently
  • If your child elects not to wear a costume they can wear halloween colours that day to school and even to mass (orange, black, yellow, white, purple – use your judgement)
  • If your child does pack a costume, their costume must be appropriate and non-intimidating or counter the philosophy of our school. This means no masks, no violent characters, no zombies or ghoulish characters, no weapons (even if pretend), and no make up that makes kids unidentifiable and certainly no devils! Superhero costumes are permitted, homemade costumes are encouraged, and dressing up as a Saint is most definitely encouraged.

Halloween Candies Needed

In 1996, Agape Street Ministries, a Catholic street ministry started reaching out to the women of the street who live in the downtown eastside area of Hastings and Cordova in Vancouver.  Since that time, they have given out approximately 45,000 candy bags a year, each with a simple message card to “Tell them God loves them…”

As part of our ongoing community outreach program, we are encouraging students to be generous again this year by sharing their Halloween treats (wrapped candies only, please).   The candy will be donated to the “Agape Street Ministry” where it will be distributed with a prayer and contact card, to reach out to these women in need.  Your generosity is most appreciated.  Please give candy donations to your child’s teacher by Friday, November 2nd.

Bank of Montreal School Fundraiser / Promotion

The Archdiocese of Vancouver has been banking with BMO for a number of years and the branch our school uses is doing a special promotion. If your child does not have a bank account currently with BMO and they open an account with BMO at the Grandview and Rupert by depositing $25.00 then BMO will also deposit $25.00 into their account and they will donate $25.00 to our school. This offer will run until the end of November. Of note is that the offer extends to any youth under the age of 18 who opens an account and says that they were referred by St. Jude School.
