REFLECTION

“But Peter and the apostles said in reply, “We must obey God rather than men.” (Acts 5:29)

The context of the quote above is that the ruling Jewish authorities in Jerusalem had arrested Peter and the apostles the day before for preaching about Jesus in the temple. However, an angel of the Lord freed them from the prison and told them to continue to preach about Jesus. When the authorities saw them in the temple they were incredulous and wanted to put them to death.

The response of Peter and the apostles crystalizes for us what is most important. The voice we must listen to is God’s. How do we do this? Read scripture and pray on it. Let silence and reflection be a part of your routine. Once we train ourselves to listen to God in prayer, then we need to follow. If you would like to see what happens when people choose to obey men rather than God, look to history and read about all the men that thought they were answerable only to themselves and the incredible evil and suffering they let loose upon people.

Let us listen to the Lord and follow in his ways.

WALKATHON PRIZES

There will be individual raffle prizes that students can put their name in for if they raise enough money. For every $50 raised they will receive one ticket to enter for a prize draw. So if a student brings in $150 they receive 3 tickets to enter into prize draws of their choice. The prizes are as follows:

  • $50 gift card to Sportchek with an outdoor basketball and soccer ball
  • Gift card to cineplex odeon to cover the cost of 4 tickets and treats
  • 2 tickets to the Tsawwassen Waterslides
  • Gift card to purchase a season pass to Playland
  • $100 gift card to Gamestop

In addition to the individual prizes we also have a school wide prize that if we meet our goal of $30,000 then we will have a non-uniform week and a pizza lunch for the school. Lastly, on June 14 (Sports Day), we are bringing in a dunk tank. For each student that brings in $100 they will receive 3 chances to dunk Mr. van der Pauw. For parents or anyone else that wants to try to dunk Mr. van der Pauw, it will cost $10 a throw.

THREE WAYS TO DONATE

There are 3 ways to donate to our School Walkathon:

  • Online through Charitable Impact – click here
  • Cash – send the cash to school on May 14, 2024
  • Cheque – make cheques payable to St. Jude Parish with Walkathon on the Memo Line – send cheques on May 14, 2024

For cash and cheque donations, please be sure to correctly put the name and address and email on the pledge sheets because it is needed for a Charitable Tax Receipt. If this is filled out incorrectly or is not legible, then we cannot issue a Charitable Tax Receipt.

Thank you for your support

PLEDGE SHEETS APRIL 18

All students are asked to bring their pledge sheets (not the money) on April 18, 2024. Our goal is that each child will have at least on sponsor recorded. We want 100% participation so every child will have to bring their pledge sheet in. If we meet that goal we will have a non-uniform day on Tuesday April 23.

MONDAY APRIL 22 - CLASS PHOTO DAY

Please make sure your child comes to school in full uniform as classes and clubs will be having their photos done by LifeTouch.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA VISITS ST. JUDE

On Friday, St. Jude Parish had the pleasure of welcoming a traveling statue of Our Lady of Fatima and some special Fatima relics to their Church. Our students led a mass in honor of Our Lady and were able to look at the statue up close and hear about her message of joy and hope.

GR 6 & 7 BADMINTON TOURNAMENT

This week marked the zone finals for the grades 6&7 Badminton teams at St. Francis Xavier School in Vancouver.
