REFLECTION

“Amen, amen, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” John 13.21

As we enter the Easter Triduum, the highpoint of the liturgical season for Catholics, we are reminded of the most important lessons of our faith. I would like to reflect the idea of betrayal as it relates to us today.

In the First Letter of John, we are told that “God is love.” To betray Jesus, who is God, is to betray love. To love another is to will what is good for the other. It is to desire what is truly best for them. A mother shows love for her child by continually sacrificing their time and energy. A friend may show love for a friend by giving up their weekend to help them move. Many of us have parents that are aging and this often requires us to sacrifice our weekends or evenings to take them to medical appointments or care for them when they are sick. To love is to sacrifice.

To betray love is to put ourselves first and to act in such a way where we do not regard the feelings of others. We betray the ones we love when we are more interested in our phone than in what they have to tell us. We betray our parents when we curse beneath our breath that they take away our time. To disregard others is to once again participate in the betrayal of Jesus.

It is not just the betrayal of others though that is of concern. We must be mindful of how we betray ourselves. This is something we must help our children with as well. When we judge ourselves too harshly, when we constantly put ourselves down, or when we cannot forgive ourselves we betray God as well.

As we enter this most sacred of times in the life of the Catholic church, let us renew our commitment to being a people of love and kindness.

THANK YOU TO OUR GRADE 5 CLASS

The Grade 5 class led the school in a prayerful and thoughtful Passion Play. The students worked hard to deliver a Passion Play that would help students to visualize the gospel story of Jesus.

WALKATHON GOAL FOR APRIL 14

All students are to bring their pledge sheet on Tuesday, April 19 to their classroom teacher. If we have 100% of students recording at least one pledge on their sheet, regardless of the amount, then April 22 will be a non-uniform day.

Let’s Go St. Jude!

WALKATHON SPONSORS 2022

Over the next few weeks I will highlight the businesses that have sponsored our walkathon shirts for 2022.

University Sprinklers

One of our goals is to maintain a pleasant curb appeal along East 15th. To achieve this, we have planted shrubs, reseeded grass, and installed an irrigation system. We went with University Sprinklers due to their gold standard reputation in commercial and residential irrigation. Their irrigation systems uses the best technology and for us this meant using rain sensors so that we would not be wasting water. University Sprinklers has been professional and courteous. They are a hassle free company and with full confidence I recommend them to anyone considering an irrigation project.

You can read more about them at their website: universitysprinklers.com

WALKATHON SUPERVISORS NEEDED

To make our Walkathon day a success requires the help and support of many parents. This is a great way to get some parent participation hours. We need supervisors at various checkpoints throughout the day. We will also need parents to walk with our classes. For class walking parents a form will be sent home closer to the Walkathon date. However, without supervisors at checkpoints this day cannot happen. On behalf of St. Jude School I thank you for helping us make this day possible.

If you are able to help with our Walkathon on May 13, 2022 please email Andrea at andreahannos@yahoo.com or email Monique at eparticipation@stjude.ca
