The Patriot Report – January 20, 2022

“Take to heart these words I am giving you today: Repeat them to your children. Keep them constantly in mind, whether you are at home or away, whether you are busy or at rest.”  Deut 6:6-7

What lessons do we pass onto our children? What are we teaching them to keep constantly in mind? If you have not given these questions much thought, I encourage you to do so. Scripture reminds parents that the lessons of faith are to be passed on to our children.

In Deut 6:4-5 we read, “Hear, Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord alone! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” This commandment acknowledges that there is one God and all energies are to be focussed on God. In John 13:34-35, Jesus teaches us a new commandment, “I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. By this love you have for one another, everyone will know that you are my disciples.”

The teaching of Jesus is that we love God by loving others. You cannot profess a love for God and then treat others with disdain, judgment, and cruelty. Love of God is expressed by loving others. This is the teaching we must always keep constantly in mind and repeat daily to our children.
