The Patriot Report – January 27, 2023

REFLECTION

“Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak the truth, each one to his neighbor, for we are members of one another.” Ephesians 4:25

As we close out the month of January, we turn our attention to the virtue of honesty for the month of February. Honesty is one of the essential building blocks of relationships. With honesty comes integrity and with integrity comes trustworthiness.

With your children, you can help them to develop honesty by rewarding them when they tell the truth. Second, you can teach them to be reflective and introspective. Our Grade 2 students just completed their First Reconciliation, which is a process of looking inward and acknowledging the truth of our actions. You can further encourage honesty by having your children learn from their mistakes and encourage them to take responsibility. Some children, I know from experience, will constantly look to cast blame onto others. Here they are not only being dishonest with others but also with themselves.

The importance of honesty in becoming virtuous people cannot be understated. Honesty is a foundational virtue that will strengthen relationships with ourselves and with others.

PROGRESS REPORTS - FEBRUARY 3, 2023

Progress reports for the first term will be sent home with your child on Friday, February 3, 2023. The progress report is a snapshot only. Any concerns you have about your child’s learning and their progress are always best discussed in person. We encourage parents to reach out to teachers to set up meetings if they wish to discuss the contents of the report.

BASKETBALL SEASON

Students at St. Jude School have been participating in basketball, having the opportunity to compete against other Catholic schools. A reminder that if your child wants to develop and improve in the game of basketball they should sign up with Vancouver Elite. Vancouver Elite is a basketball academy run by our own Miss Handy. Miss Handy played college basketball herself and is a fantastic coach who imparts the fundamentals of the game onto the players she works with. If you would like to know more information please email Miss Handy at lhandy@stjude.ca
