The Patrioteer – September 18, 2026

We are rolling right along with the school year! 

On Wednesday we had our Meet the Teacher Night. This was a great opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher and receive information about the rest of the year. Some tips from the night:

• Sign up for the Patrioteer to get school news in your inbox
• Sign up for Remind messaging for emergency updates such as school closures and other safety alerts
• Become familiar with the school website to access important school info like the parent handbook, safety plans, the accessibility plan, absence notes, and teacher contacts
• LABEL your child’s uniform –save yourself time, money, and grief
• Subscribe to the school calendar to never miss a day

St. Jude, Pray for Us! 

Have your children bring their smiles on Monday, Sep 21st, for our picture day! If your child will be absent, retakes will be held on Oct 27th.  

Our first “Care Day” of the year is September 25th. Care Days are the last Fridays of the month are days when students are reminded to care for others. These are dress down days following a monthly theme and have a 12pm dismissal. Students may wear a shirt following the Care Day theme or they may come to school in Patriot wear as is permitted every Friday or they may wear their uniform.

As we did last year, we have done an EFT of $18.00 for all 9 of our Care Days. The money collected has been used to support Covenant House and the Archdiocese Charities. The EFT is scheduled for October. If you choose to not participate, please email bookkeeper@stjude.ca. 

After School Club will still run till 5:30pm on these days.

This month’s theme dress will be “Wear Your Favourite Colour!”.

We added a new Educational Assistant to our St. Jude family this week. Sister Rhonda will be joining us until December as she covers Mrs. Vial’s maternity leave. Sister’s order is the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence, which has their motherhouse in the US, though Sister herself is Canadian. She will be in the Kindergarten room most days, but she is very flexible and often can be seen helping out in other rooms! Please show her a warm welcome if you see her around!

After school club goes till 5:30pm and will be run by a few of our staff on a rotating basis (Ms. Finglas, Mr. Munro, Ms. Shin, Ms. Azarcon, and Ms. Grimes).

Please note that students not picked up by 3:30pm will be sent to After School Club.

Our Hot Lunch ordering site, Munchalunch, is open for ordering!

We are happy to have the following hot lunch vendors on board this term: Pho Kitchen (Vietnamese cuisine), Pizza Hut, Church’s Chicken, Sushi Moon, Domino’s Pizza and Dami (Korean Fried Chicken). Hot lunches will be available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week with September 22nd being the first hot lunch date.

Ordering will close at 7am every Wednesday for all the hot lunches of the following week. For example, for lunches Tuesday, September 29th – Thursday, October 1st, ordering will close on Sept 23rd at 7am.

St. Jude’s Parish offers an RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) program for anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith and for Catholics who have not received the sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation.  For more information, please contact the parish office to speak with Fr.
